Kathleen M. Kunkle

Kathy began her legal career as a deputy district attorney in the misdemeanor trial unit of the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. While there, she prosecuted all types of misdemeanors through to jury trial. Kathy then ventured out on her own and had a solo practice for 10 years. Practicing primarily criminal defense; she was a member of both the trial and appellate panel. Kathy also handled a small construction law practice.

Kathy eventually joined a small civil insurance defense firm in Sacramento, where she gained substantial experience in the practice areas of personal injury defense, premises liability defense, products liability defense, insurance coverage, and construction defect. Kathy has handled civil (insurance defense) cases through all phases of litigation, particularly written discovery, depositions, motions for summary judgment, and mediations / settlement conferences.

Kathy moved back to her hometown of Chicago and clerked for the Honorable William J. Bauer, U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit prior to joining Patton & Ryan.
