Jay has always had a passion for litigation and trial law. Prior to joining Patton & Ryan, he worked as a 7/11 intern in the Cook County Public Defender Homicide Task Force and Felony Trials divisions, where he was given an opportunity to try cases as a 2nd chair while in law school. He began his career as a criminal defense attorney, where he represented clients for DUIs, domestic violence, and white-collar crime. He gained valuable courtroom experience representing clients in both Federal and State court.
After leaving the area of criminal defense, Jay transitioned to the world of personal injury law working for a prominent plaintiff’s firm in Chicago. While there, he took several jury trials to verdict in multiple areas of law and jurisdictions, including an airplane crash that involved an ironworker who sustained severe injuries to his face, shoulder and knees. He also worked extensively in the area of construction litigation and learned firsthand how high-profile work injury cases are handled. Now at Patton & Ryan, Jay is focused on using his diverse experience in litigation to aid his clients in obtaining favorable results, finding creative ways to bring plaintiffs to the negotiating table and lowering their case valuations to a more reasonable number.
